Aerial Yoga / Pilates

Aerial yoga is yoga that uses a silk hammock as a tool to help students achieve and deepen poses. It combines traditional yoga poses with moves inspired by pilates. Your body weight is supported by the hammock as you move through a range of yoga postures including hamstring stretches, hip openers, inversions, core-stregthening exercises and restorative postures. Aerial yoga is thought to be particularly beneficial for those who spend time sitting for extended periods, or who have back pain because it has a decompressing effect on the body.

 

Love and praise: I just participated in my first aerial yoga class last night at Penticton Classical Pilates and I was blown away! It was amazing and I feel longated and stretched and worked out plus I had the most blissful night of sleep! Huge bonus. I highly recommend it.

Who should opt out

We recommend extreme caution to people who have/are very high or low blood pressure, easy onset vertigo, pregnancy, glaucoma, recent surgery, heart disease, osteoporosis, bone weakness, recent head injury, cerebral sclerosis, propensity for fainting, artificial hips, carpal tunnel syndrome, severe arthritis, sinusitis or head cold, recent stroke or botox injections (within 6 hours).

  • It is essential that you are comfortable with inverting/going upside down.

 

  • Avoid loose or baggy bottoms.  Tops should be semi-fitted or fitted with capped or short sleeves, or opt to wear a tank top and bring a sleeved layer for personal comfort. Aerial classes will be barefoot.

 

  • For your own safety, please remove any jewellery that might snag or catch on the hammocks.

 

  • There is a weight limit of 250 lbs. for aerial hammocks.
